Growing up, I always thought my family had a good ole fashioned Thanksgiving Dinner. I’m starting to realize that we go a little over the top though, but I wouldn’t change it for the world!

This year we had about 18 people (including kiddos) for dinner. And this was minus my two sisters and family (7 people total).

I’ve ready so many posts and notes about how much food people have, but no one EVER compares to our menu. It is as follows:

Turkey (duh)
Ham
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy (Turkey and Ham)
Corn Casserole (or pudding, whatever)
Plain corn
Green Bean Casserole
Sweet Potatoes
Deviled Eggs (a must!)
Rolls
Strawberry and Banana Jello
Orange Tapioca Jello
Pear Delight Jello (ok, so we like jello’s so sue us!)
Chocolate Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Pumpkin Bars
Pecan Pie
Apple Pie

And then there is the traditional pre and post dinner snacks: M&M’s and Cashew mix, Brownies (although I substituted with chess squares this year), crackers/cheese/sausage, and to drink, punch and pop (or milk for my mother, only she would drink milk with turkey!!)

So, anyway, that is our massive menu. We always have a massive amount of food left over, and divvy it out amongst the families represented. Yummm!!

It is Saturday now, and I can’t believe how the weekend has flown by! Tomorrow afternoon, when Scott doesn’t have to work, we’ll go buy our Christmas tree (Yes, we do a REAL tree!) and spend the afternoon and evening decorating, listening to Christmas Carols and sipping hot chocolate. Pizza for dinner, and just a funny family time! Will probably top it off with a festive holiday movie! Fun stuff!!

Soooo… what is everyone else doing this wonderful Thanksgiving weekend??

  1. Well, Turkey day is over…and I’m still stuffed. IT was a great weekend. We had rainy, cool weather, which is always nice for cuddling up…oh and eating.

We did a little road biking and a lot of relaxing. IT’s just me and my sweet hubby, so our menu was tiny compared to yours:
    Turkey
    Corn
    Mashed potatoes
    Dressing
    Apple Pie (and ice cream).
Yep, that’s it. But, it was good (hubby’s a good cook).

Hope you’re having a great Monday!

  2. I think my family can compete with yours- we had a total of twenty this year.

We go up to my aunt’s house, and my mom, siblings and family come, and usually someone else. This year our “extras” were my brother’s girlfriend and a family from my aunt’s church.

That put us at twenty, I think.

    Food:
    Turkey
    Stuffing
    Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
    Corn Casserole
THREE DIFFERENT cranberry sauces- one jellied from the can, one homemade (by yours truly!) and one jello-desserty one
    rolls
    veggie tray
    sweet potatoes
    green bean casserole
    apple pie
    pecan pie
    pumpkin pie
    cherry pie
(all the pies with the option of ice cream)

    I think that’s it…
